One of the most popular Donkeys ‘Ant’ gave us a terrible shock on the first Friday in September when he just lay down and passed away in his field. He had been well and had not shown any signs of any illness. The vets said that his heart had stopped and it could have been the extreme heat and humidity that had caused it.
Ant was paired up with Dec (as in the famous TV duo) and they were always larking around playing and full of mischief. They were very popular in our adoption scheme and were adopted mainly as a pair.
They did a lot of visits to Garden Centres fundraising up until the covid pandemic stopped all trips out. He had been at the Sanctuary since 2007 as was one of the original donkeys here and will be very much missed by the Staff here every day and all his loyal adoptees.
